The w007 is my home on the internet. Its main use: The storage of information I find of particular interest. Said stores are referenced to the left. I especially suggest the Wishlist section, but I'm biased, no doubt.

Last weekend, we started to redo our bathroom. The plan is to replace the linoleum floor with tile, replace the trim and floorboards, paint the walls, replace the vanity, and re-grout the tile shower surround.

On Saturday, we tore out the vanity and began to remove the baseboard and linoleum. I had wanted to remove the vanity in one piece and donate it, but it wouldn't have that. It came out in pieces. Also, the baseboard had caulking to the top and bottom edge, so it was difficult to remove without pulling paint (and sheetrock paper) away with it. We started to remove the linoleum and glue using a couple putty knives. That was slow going. Kristin and my mom cleared about four square feet in a few hours.

The next day, we visited Home Depot to buy a proper floor scraper. They're about $30, but I can now say from experience it is a worthwhile expense if you have to remove this kind of stuff. We also bought the vanity we had been eyeing from Costco. Working from around three or four o'clock until nine, we sanded the walls, applied joint compound, and removed about 2/3 of the linoleum and glue. Removing the glue is hard work, even with a heat gun.

On Monday evening, after work, Mom called me with some great news: When she described what we'd done to Dad, he said that we need to remove the floorboard and replace it -- because you can't put tile on particle board. We had worked for hours to get that glue off the floor for no reason. That was probably the most difficult part of the whole remodel, too. Woo!

Today, we may do some painting, depending on how we feel after work. I also need to have Dad over to look at some evidence of water damage near the tub, to decide whether we need to do more investigation (i.e., tear out the tub).

naruto (the w007 webserver) has moved to Newberg, OR. It is being hosted on a FiOS connection with far more bandwidth than my DSL. Woot.
